West Tour Itinerary
To explore the west coast of Madeira, we start journey by visiting small town of Câmara de Lobos, followed with check-in at sea cliff of Cabo Girão at 580 m height, which is famous for its transparent platform and panoramic views over Funchal and ocean. Then we will proceed to Ribeira Brava, and Ponta do Sol known as the banana region of Madeira. After that, we reach Paul da Serra plateau (1 200 m alt.) where you will enjoy a short hike. After we will stop in Porto Moniz, where you can have lunch and enjoy the natural swimming pools.
On the way back to Funchal, we will pass by the famous Véu da Noiva located in the parish of São Vicente.
We will also stop in Encumeada, where you can taste the famous poncha, a typical alcoholic drink made from local rum, lemon juice and honey.
A small and pleasant town located at the north-west point of Madeira Island. Known for its natural volcanic pools this town is very popular by locals and tourists alike in the summer. Porto Moniz has the safest harbour on the north coast of the island and a heliport designated for tourists and for emergency purposes. The historic Fort of João Batista was built in 1730 to protect from Pirate raids, and nowadays has been restored and transformed into the Madeira Aquarium with more than 70 marine species. Along the promenade you will find a variety of cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops and the Living Science Centre; a place for all ages to explore mixture of science and cultural exhibits. Furthermore, if you enjoy camping, nearby is a campsite and on your way out of town don’t forget to visit the Miradouro da Santa (lookout point) for spectacular view of Porto Moniz.
