East tour of Madeira Island gives you chance to see different climates within same day: high peaks from Pico Arrieiro point (1 810 m), eucalyptus and pine forest, beautiful rural landscapes of Santo da Serra and much more!

East Tour Itinerary

We start this tour in the east part of the island with a visit of Camacha, a town known for the wicker basket industry, where you will have a chance to visit the wickerwork factory and see craftsmen build traditional wicker baskets.

After this short visit, we will go to Portela viewpoint, passing by Santo da Serra, known for the beautiful rural landscape and famous golf court, a chosen location for international golf tournaments. Then we cross Porto da Cruz, the village known for producing the regional wine following the direction of Santana where you can see famous thatched roofs houses .

After having lunch in Faial, we will drive up the mountains in the direction of Ribeiro Frio, where we will visit the trout cattery, and take a walk along the Levada dos Balcões.

Then we pass to a special place to try famous poncha, a typical alcoholic drink made from local rum, lemon juice and honey.

Continuing up the mountain, we will reach one of the highest peaks of Madeira – Pico do Arieiro with 1810 m altitude. After we will stop in Monte (where is option to slide downhill in basket cars, at extra cost) on our way back to Funchal.
